Prepare for a career in the automotive industry. Learn about tune-ups, lubrication, brakes, suspension, power train systems theory, diagnosis, and repair. After initial classroom instruction, intern at an automotive repair facility. 

To meet the UC/CSU admission requirements (“G” credit), students must complete the semester and earn a grade of 70% or better.

Students must earn a grade of 70% or better in the classroom portion of the course to be placed at an internship site.

Prerequisites:  Students must be at least 16 years of age. Students must be responsible for their own transportation to and from the internship site. Completion of one year of an automotive course is strongly reccommended.

Class meets on Mondays and Wednesdays, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM

Students participating in Coastline ROP internship classes must adhere to the policies and procedures of their assigned site.  This may include being vaccinated and boosted for COVID-19.

UC / Articulated / 5 credits 

Explore the field of early childhood education. Focus on child growth and development, health, safety and nutrition, classroom management techniques, and curriculum. After initial classroom instruction, deliver lessons to students while interning at local preschools or child care facilities.

Students must earn a grade of 70% or better in the classroom portion of the course to be placed at an internship site.

To meet the UC/CSU admission requirements (“G” credit), students must complete the semester and earn a grade of 70% or better.

Certification: Meet eligibility requirements to apply for the Child Development Assistant Permit.

Prerequisites: Students must be at least 16 years of age. Students must be responsible for their own transportation to and from the internship site. TB clearance and proof of MMR and DTaP immunizations required for all students prior to placement at an internship site.

Class meets on Mondays and Wednesdays, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM

This course builds on the learning from the previous course and is a hands-on course with a strong focus on environmentally sustainable practices. Students study design (standards, process, documentation, etc.) and learn to solve problems systematically. Students study product design from the perspective of cradle-to-cradle life cycles. They explore what makes a home, office, or school sustainable and investigate their city with an eye for sustainability. Students research the creation, transmission, and consumption of energy in our society, then engineer solutions to green energy technological problems and build alternative energy projects (sun, wind, water, etc.) to address these issues. Students consider human needs, such as transportation, and learn about problems and solutions regarding sustainability in this area. Finally, students assess their own lifestyles throughout the course to discover ways to work towards an environmentally sustainable world.

ONLY HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS CAN ENROLL IN THIS CLASS!

Students participating in this class must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19, including a booster shot, as required by the internship site.

Honors / UC / 10 credits

Learn the necessary skills to become a certified nurse assistant. Assist patients with basic personal needs such as bathing, dressing, feeding, and ambulation. Practice techniques of infection control, measure and record vital signs, and recognize psychosocial needs. After initial classroom instruction, intern at a skilled nursing facility.

To meet the UC/CSU admission requirements (“G” credit), students must complete the semester and earn a grade of 70% or better.

IMPORTANT NOTICE 1: During the clinical portion of this class, the instructor and students will be tested weekly for COVID-19. This is required by the skilled nursing facility for the protection of their patients and is at no cost to the student. Students who decline COVID-19 testing may not enroll in this class.

IMPORTANT NOTICE 2: Health occupations classes include the study of reproductive and other systems and require practicing procedures on other students and/or patients, both male and female, of differing ages. Participation in these activities is required for a certificate of completion and continuation in the career pathway. Additionally, these classes may require heavy lifting and bending. Lastly, some programs require the submission of personal information, such as DOB and social security numbers, with state agencies and/or clinical internship partners due to licensing and security clearance requirements.

Certification: Students will be eligible to take the written and performance examination to become a State Certified Nurse Assistant upon successful completion of the course with a 75% or better. Students will earn the American Heart Association BLS for Healthcare Providers card.

Prerequisites: Students must be at least 16 years of age and preference is given to seniors.  Students must be responsible for their own transportation to and from the internship site. Students must bring their original Social Security card, a valid government-issued ID, COVID-19 vaccination card, and COVID-19 Permission form (provided by Coastline ROP) to the first class session or they will be dropped. Live Scan fingerprinting, physical exam, TB clearance, and vaccinations required for all students prior to internship. Students must earn a grade of 75% or better in the classroom portion of the course to be placed at an internship site.

It is recommended that individuals with convictions other than a minor traffic violation obtain a criminal clearance from the Department of Health Services before registering for this class.

Class meets on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM.

UC / Articulated / 5 credits 

Prepare for a career as a chef in a fine restaurant or hotel. Learn safety and sanitation, knife skills, cooking techniques, and food service procedures.

To meet UC/CSU admission requirement (“G” credit), students must complete the semester earn a grade of 70% or better. 

Certification: Students will have the opportunity to test for and receive a ServSafe Food Handler Certificate.

Prerequisites: Students must be at least 16 years of age. Students must be responsible for their own transportation to and from the internship site. Students must take and pass ServSafe Food Handler test prior to placement at an internship site; test administered during course hours. Students must earn a grade of 70% or better in the classroom portion of the course to be placed at an internship.

Required Materials: Blue pants and black leather shoes with rubber soles required.

Class meets on Mondays and Wednesdays, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM

The DMA Internship is a hands-on, real-world experience where you’ll work with industry professionals on media projects, developing photography, videography, graphic design, editing, and branding skills. Learn industry-standard software like Photoshop, Premiere Pro, and After Effects while gaining practical experience in content creation, marketing, and storytelling. Build your portfolio, refine your resume, and prepare for a future in media arts with mock interviews and networking opportunities. This course is designed for students serious about creative media, marketing, or entertainment careers.

Prerequisites: Must be at least 16 years old, an incoming junior or senior, and have completed at least one semester of digital media arts.

Class meets Monday ( Virtual ) Wednesdays (In Person) 4:00pm -7:00pm

Learn about a career as an ambulance attendant or emergency room technician. EMT certification increases opportunities to obtain a position as a lifeguard, firefighter, search and rescue team member, or ski patrol team.

To meet UC/CSU admission requirement (“D” credit), students must complete the semester and earn a grade of 70% or better.

Lastly, some programs require the submission of personal information, such as DOB and social security numbers, with state agencies and/or clinical internship partners due to licensing and security clearance requirements.

Certification: FEMA Incident Command System 100, 200, 700, and 800 Eligible to take the National Registry EMT-Basic certification exam upon successful completion of the course. Successful completion includes all of the following: 1) 80% or better overall grade, 2) 80% or better on the final exam, 3) 80% or better on the skills final, 4) completion of 24 clinical hours, 5) on-time completion of the FEMA Incident Command System 100, 200, 700 and 800 online modules.

Prerequisites: Students must bring a copy of current American Heart Association BLS for Healthcare Providers card to the first class meeting. 

Required Materials: Blue pants and white shirt.

Required Hours: Students must complete 24 clinical hours, dates and times to be determined.

Class meets on Mondays and Wednesdays from 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM, plus 2 Skills Saturdays, dates TBD, time 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM  

UC / Articulated / 5 credits

Acquire the skills necessary for a career in fire protection and fire safety. The course includes a survey of career opportunities in fire service and related fields, history of fire protection, fire loss analysis, public and private fire protection services, specific fire protection functions, fire chemistry, and physics. This class is for the student seriously considering a future career in the fire service.

To meet UC/CSU admission requirement (“G” credit), students must complete the semester and earn a grade of 70% or better.

Certification: FEMA Incident Command System 907 and 230.

Required Materials: Dark blue pants (non-denim) and dark blue shirt required (no logos).
