Dental Assistant Back Office (Semester) - Presidio Campus

Learn about a career in the dental field. Examine the fundamentals and practice procedures needed to assist the dentist; instruction includes dental terminology and anatomy, identification and use of instruments, equipment sterilization procedures, and preparation of dental materials.

To meet UC/CSU admission requirement (“G” credit), students must complete the semester and earn a grade of 70% or better.

IMPORTANT NOTICE: Health occupations classes include the study of reproductive and other systems and require practicing procedures on other students and/or patients, both male, and female, of differing ages. Participation in these activities is required for a certificate of completion and continuation in the career pathway. Additionally, these classes may require heavy lifting and bending. Lastly, some programs require the submission of personal information, such as DOB and a social security number, with state agencies and/or clinical internship partners due to licensing and security clearance requirements.

Certification: Students will have an opportunity to earn a Dental Practice Act and Infection Control certificate upon successful completion of the exams and course. Students must attend one five-hour session on a weekday evening or a Saturday for the American Heart Association BLS for Healthcare Providers card. Sessions are held at local schools or at the Presidio Campus in Costa Mesa. Students will sign up online during the second week of class.

Prerequisites: Must be a high school senior to enroll. TB clearance and proof of Hepatitis B vaccination are required prior to lab activities.

Classes meet on Mondays and Wednesdays from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM. 

Monday classes will be in person from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM. 

Wednesday classes will be online from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM.

Learn the basic principles of medical science, terminology, and vocabulary needed to work in the healthcare field. This course focuses on the ethical and legal responsibilities of the health care worker, safety, medical terminology, human anatomy and physiology, body systems and mechanics, standard precautions, and health & fitness. Explore career opportunities in therapeutic, diagnostic, and supportive areas. Gain practical hands-on experience in vital signs, emergency medical care, first aid, and CPR. This course is a great foundation for all other courses offered in the Health Science and Medical Technology industry sector.

Medical Nursing Careers Internship (Semester) - Presidio Campus

Students participating in this class must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19, including a booster shot, as required by the internship site.

Learn the necessary skills to become a nurse assistant. Develop knowledge of anatomy, infection control, vital signs, personal patient care, ethics, and medical terminology. After initial classroom instruction, intern at a local hospital.

To meet the UC/CSU admission requirements (“G” credit), students must complete the semester and earn a grade of 70% or better.

Physical exam, TB clearance and vaccinations required for all students prior to internship. Students must earn a grade of 70% or better in the classroom portion of the course to be placed at an internship. Students must complete Live Scan fingerprinting to attend internship.

Class meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM, plus 1 Saturday for 5 hours for CPR Training - date and time TBD.
